Most computer problems and issues start with the fact that most computers are now web-enabled and are connected to the internet. It's just the nature of the beast. Recent advances in technology have brought high-speed internet access into the majority of homes. But with that also comes the constant threat from unwanted access to our home computers. It makes for no suprise that most of the threat on your computer will be from hackers placing malware onto pc via the internet browser.
A recent blog post on Tech Republic, a resource for IT professionals; posted 5 websites with free tools in checking your web browser for malware. We would like to make them available for you below:
- Browserscope.org - This tool offers an overview of how the different browsers rank from a security standpoint. Geared for advanced users.
- browserspy.dk - Performs security checks on your browser; does not offers any fixes for found malware.
- PC Flank - More comprehensive testing looking at overall computer security; determines what information may be at risk.
- Qualys BrowserCheck - This site requires a browser plug-in to be installed.
- ScanIT Browser Security Check - Very comprehensive testing; checks Web Apps as well.
Disclaimer - these tools are used by IT professionals, so you should be somewhat familiar with computers before proceeding to use any of these tools listed. Also, they are not to be intended to be used in lieu of anti-virus/malware protection software. If you PC is connected to the internet, you should always have an anti-virus software program installed that is updated on a daily basis.
